Indiana University School of Medicine and Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science
The Department is jointly housed in the School of Medicine and the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, serving as a central hub for biostatistics and data science research and education at Indiana University (IU). The Department’s mission has three interdependent components: research, service, and education. In research, faculty lead the development of innovative study designs and cutting-edge analytical methods. Faculty expertise encompasses all areas of biostatistics and data science research, including bioinformatics, clinical trial design, observational studies and causal inference, statistical models, image processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, as well as advanced computational methods. In service, the department supports biomedical research in Indianapolis and beyond by providing study design, data management, and data analysis to support grant development and scientific publication. Faculty and staff collaborate with basic science researchers and medical investigators in all specialty areas. In education, the Department strives to provide a conducive learning environment that prepares trainees to become statistical analysts and data scientists skilled in solving real-world problems. The department is ranked 7th nationally in NIH funding, according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The department currently has two active degree programs: PhD and MS degrees in Biostatistics. The Department is located in the IU Health Information and Translational Sciences building in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. Learn more about the department at medicine.iu.edu/biostatistics.

Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington advances public health through rigorous biostatistical and epidemiological methodological innovation. Our faculty develop and apply advanced statistical methods to address complex global and local health challenges, such as modeling social and economic determinants of HIV risk in South Africa and identifying gait-based predictors of cognitive decline in older adults. Through the Biostatistics Consulting Center, we support interdisciplinary research with expertise in study design, data management, and sophisticated statistical analytic techniques. We train professionals to lead in academia, government, and industry by equipping them with the biostatistical and epidemiological tools needed to inform evidence-based public health policy and practice.
